
U-M to Open Home Season After Undefeated Opening Weekend

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team (2-0) will open its 2025 home season against Eastern Michigan on Tuesday (Sept. 2) at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live on B1G+ and will take place in Crisler Center.
Notes
• The Wolverines opened the 2025 season in Cincinnati, and took down Wake Forest and Cincinnati in four sets each. U-M dropped the first set in both matches, but was able to respond, winning the next three sets. Against the Demon Deacons, Michigan battled hard -- winning the second set 29-27 -- and then saw the final two sets with 19 tied scores and 10 lead changes over the final two sets. Against the Bearcats, U-M was leading in the first before an injury derailed the first set. U-M responded and controlled the rest of the match, winning 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.
• Michigan ran a 6-2 system for the first time under coach Erin Virtue , and all three setters saw action. Morgan Burke leads the Wolverines with 48 assists this season and now ranks 10th all-time in program history in career assists. Camille Edwards played in both matches over the weekend and has totaled 33 assists over five sets, leading the way in assists per set. Ellie White saw action against Cincinnati and totaled 14 over four sets.
• Leading the Michigan offense over the weekend was Preseason All-Big Ten selection Allison Jacobs, who tallied 39 kills over the eight sets played. Jacobs was one short of a career high in kills after recording 24 against Wake Forest and added another 15 against Cincinnati. She recorded a double-double with 11 against the Demon Deacons and was one dig short against the Bearcats. Jacobs debuted a new serve and tallied six aces to lead the Wolverines.
• U-M's other starting outside hitter was Amalia Simmons, who totaled 18 kills over seven sets. Simmons played the first three against Wake Forest, and tallied five kills and eight digs. She recorded her first career double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs.
• Coming off the bench in the first match, Ella Demetrician changed the game. In just one and a half sets, Demetrician tallied nine kills on 15 swings with seven digs, one assist and one ace. Â
• Lydia Johnson had a career-high in kills against Cincinnati -- reaching double-digits for the first time with 13. She did so with no errors in 22 swings for a .591 hitting percentage. Johnson is averaging 2.13 kills per set through two matches and has added five blocks.
• In just her second and third starts, Jenna Hanes made an impact. Hanes tallied 17 kills, which is tied for third most on the team with Johnson and is second on the team in hitting percentage at .455. Hanes also recorded her first career block over the weekend, with two solo blocks and six block assists for a 1.00 average.  Â
• Eastern Michigan is 2-1, competing in the Highlander Invitational hosted by Radford. The Eagles took down Radford to open the season in four sets before dropping a four-setter to Marshall. EMU responded and beat Kansas City in five sets. Michigan is 36-15 against Eastern Michigan, winning the last 15 -- with 14 of those being three-set victories. Â
