
Michigan to Host No. 3 OSU, Penn State to Kickstart Four-Match Homestand

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (11-7, 5-1 Big Ten) hosts No. 3 Ohio State (16-2, 5-0 Big Ten) on Friday (March 28) to open a four-match homestand at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Maize Out match is slated for a 6 p.m. start. On Sunday (March 30) at 11 a.m., the Wolverines will host Penn State (11-7, 0-5 Big Ten). Admission to all home events is free.
Notes
• Michigan enters the weekend ranked No. 20 in this week's ITA national rankings, and with its 5-1 Big Ten record is tied for third place in the conference standings. U-M also boasts a 5-1 record when playing at the VTC.
• OSU is ranked third in the nation with a 16-2 record and is 5-0 in conference play. The Buckeyes have three ranked singles players -- Aidan Kim (No. 13), Alexander Bernard (No. 52) and Jack Anthrop (No. 77) -- and one ranked doubles pair -- Bryce Nakashima and Wiliam Jansen (No. 41). Penn State is 11-7 overall and has not yet won a match in the league at 0-5.
• OSU holds a 76-49-2 advantage in the all-time series while Michigan seeks to snap a seven-game series skid, with its last win a 4-2 decision in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament championship match. The Wolverines hold a 33-8 advantage in the series with the Nittany Lions, having won the last six meetings.
• Junior Nicholas Steiglehner added two more match clinchers last weekend, giving Michigan victories at Purdue and Indiana. He has clinched a team-best four wins for Michigan this season. He is two singles wins away from reaching 40 career wins and is riding a three-match win streak.
• Senior Will Cooksey is the first player to reach double digits in dual wins this season with a 10-4 mark. He is 4-1 in Big Ten matches and is 18-7 in singles across both fall and spring seasons.
• Michigan has won nine of 13 doubles matches in league doubles. Gavin Young and Bjorn Swenson are 2-0, winning both at No. 1 last weekend. Swenson is also 2-0 when playing with Benjamin Kittay. Swenson has won each of his five doubles matches dating back to March 7.
• Young is one win away from reaching 10th all-time in Michigan in doubles victories. He owns a 78-40 record, one away from tying Evan King's 79 wins from 2009-13. The record holder is Young's former partner, Andrew Fenty, with 115.
