
Wolverines to Close March Slate at Chattanooga Classic

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team will close its March schedule by heading to Ooltewah, Tenn., for the Chattanooga Classic, Friday through Sunday (March 28–30). The three-day, 54-hole event is scheduled to be played at the Honors Course. The course will be set up as a par 72 and measure 6,180 yards.
Notes
• There will be 16 teams in the field for the Chattanooga Classic, including Campbell, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Duke, Eastern Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Old Dominion, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wisconsin and Xavier.
• U-M will travel five starters to the Chattanooga Classic. Junior Sydney Sung, junior Lauren Sung, redshirt sophomore Mara Janess, sophomore Grace Wang and freshman Thomasine Bartholdson make up U-M's starting five.
• Michigan will play its practice round on Thursday (March 27) at 10:50 a.m. The Wolverines will be paired with Georgia and Xavier for Friday's first round starting at 10:10 a.m.
• Janess posted three straight career-low 70s to start the spring season, closing the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational and starting the Gators Invitational. She added a career performance at the Sun Coast with a career-low 212 (-4) and her first career top-five finish, tying for third. With a 214 (+4), she led the Wolverines in Gainesville and tied for 13th. She leads U-M with a 73.95 scoring average.
• With Janess leading U-M at 73.95, Sung follows with a 74.00. Each Wolverine has four rounds of par this season, with Janess holding a slight lead in sub-par rounds, three to two. As a team, U-M has seven sub-par tallies and 10 of par. Overall, the Wolverines are averaging 75.12 per round.
• For the first time in her career, Sydney Sung led the Maize and Blue at a tournament. In the weather-shortened Augusta Invitational, she carded rounds of 76 and 77 to tie for 29th in the 36-hole event. In a career-best season, she is averaging a career-low 75.18, fired a career-best 70 in the first round of the Gators Invitational, and posted a career-low 217 54-hole total at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.
• Bartholdson made her collegiate debut and first career start at the Augusta Invitational. After opening with an 80, she followed with a 78 in rainy conditions at the Forest Hills Golf Course. She is expected to make her second start at the Chattanooga Classic.
• In the fall season, the Maize and Blue had at least one Wolverine close to the top 20 in all four events. This spring, Janess and Lauren Sung paced the Wolverines with the top two finishes for U-M. In the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational, Janess tied for third (212, -4), while Sung tied for ninth (215, -1). In the Gators Invitational, Janess tied for 13th (214), while Sung tied for 17th (215).
