ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team recorded season bests on vault and floor but ultimately fell to No. 2 UCLA, 197.550-196.850, Sunday night (Feb. 23) at Crisler Center.
The Wolverines (8-3, 4-2 B1G) put together a season-high 49.300 on the vault behind Jenna Mulligan's career-best 9.950 that would give her a share of the title, while the floor team earned a season-high 49.400 with a 9.925 from Carly Bauman and a 9.900 from Jahzara Ranger.
Bauman won her second straight uneven bars title with a 9.975 and a stuck landing and also won a share of the beam title with a 9.900. Freshman Peyton Davis earned a career-high 9.825 on the vault and 9.850 on the floor, while Sophie Parenti had a career-high 9.850 on the floor and a 9.825 on uneven bars. Freshmen Sophia Diaz and Ranger also scored career-best 9.900s on uneven bars and floor, respectively.
Michigan had its best vault rotation of the season with a 49.300 behind a career-best 9.950 from Mulligan, while Davis scored a career-best 9.825, and both Ranger and Diaz had 9.850 for the Wolverines.
The U-M uneven bars team put together an impressive 49.300 in the second rotation to take the lead from the Bruins, 98.650-98.575, behind a career-best 9.975 from Bauman. Parenti also tied a career best with a 9.825 in the leadoff and Diaz stuck to tie a career-best 9.900.
Parenti led off with a 9.825 and Ranger scored a 9.875 in the fourth spot. Bauman anchored with a 9.900 as Michigan went into the final rotation trailing UCLA, 148.125-147.450.
Parenti and Davis scored back-to-back 9.850s to tie career highs and Kayli Boozer recorded a 9.875. Bauman and Ranger closed out the meet with a 9.925 and 9.900.
Michigan heads to College Park, Md., on Saturday (March 1) for the Big Ten Quad Meet at 6 p.m. against Illinois, Maryland and Minnesota.
