Balanced Scoring Sends U-M Past Oakland for 10th Win

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team had five double-figure scorers and never trailed in a 97-54 win over Oakland on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 21) at Crisler Center.
Olivia Olson recorded her fourth 20-point performance of the season, turning in 23 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the floor and four rebounds in 26 minutes. Syla Swords had 18 points on the strength of four triples while also recording three rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Brooke Quarles Daniels stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Ashley Sofilkanich and Te'Yala Delfosse each added 10. Mila Holloway joined the 200-assist club for her career, handing out seven assists to go with nine points, two rebounds and two steals.
After Oakland tied the game at 6-6 in the early going, Michigan uncorked a 15-2 run over four minutes for a 21-8 lead off a pair of Swords free throws at the 3:14 mark. The run included six points from Olson, five from Swords and buckets from Delfosse and Sofilkanich.
U-M put up 30 points in the first quarter, marking its fifth period with at least 30 points this season, taking a 30-16 lead after 10 minutes behind 13 points from Olson.
Michigan extended its lead to 20 points near the midpoint of the second quarter, doubling up Oakland at 40-20 after a Swords layup at the 5:13 mark. Oakland cut it to 18 two more times before Alyssa Crockett converted a putback off a U-M miss for a 44-24 advantage with 3:43 left in the quarter. Michigan's lead never fell below 20 the rest of the way.
U-M hit the break with a 54-27 lead after Kendall Dudley made good on a three-point play with 23 seconds remaining in the half.
Oakland used an 11-2 run in the middle stages of the third quarter to pull within 22, 62-40, with 2:44 left. Macy Brown found Swords for a corner triple on the ensuing possession, kickstarting a 9-2 spurt for the home team to end the quarter for a 71-42 lead after 30 minutes.
U-M led by as many as 46 points in the final quarter, with 11 of the 12 Wolverines who saw the floor finding the scoring column.
Michigan resumes Big Ten play after the holiday break, heading west to face Oregon (Dec. 29, 6 p.m. PT) and Washington (Jan. 1, 3 p.m. PT).
