Michigan Remains Perfect, Puts Up 120 Against Binghamton

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team scored a program-record 37 points in the first quarter and never looked back, remaining perfect on the young season with a 120-50 win over Binghamton on Sunday (Nov. 16) at Crisler Center. The 120 points marked the most scored under 14th-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico and the second-highest total in program history.
Michigan had six players score in double figures, led by Syla Swords and Olivia Olson with 15 points each. McKenzie Mathurin added a career-high 14 points, while Te'Yala Delfosse tallied 14, Macy Brown posted a career-best 12, and Ashley Sofilkanich contributed 12. Michigan forced 30 turnovers in the contest, converting those miscues into 45 points. The Wolverines shot 66.2 percent (45-for-68) from the floor, the second-best mark in program history.
Michigan (4-0) set the tone early, scoring 37 points on 15-for-24 shooting in the opening quarter to take control. Olson scored six points in the period, while Sofilkanich and Brooke Quarles Daniels each added six. The Wolverines opened with the first nine points of the game behind four points from Kendall Dudley in her first start and five from Olson. U-M closed the quarter on an 18-4 run over the final 4:24 to take a 37-14 lead on the Bearcats.
The Wolverines continued to dominate in the second quarter, holding Binghamton (2-2)Â to just seven points while setting a new NCAA-era program record for points in a half with 66. Olson (11), Swords (10), and Sofilkanich (10) each reached double figures in the first half. Michigan shot 65.9 percent (27-for-41) over the first 20 minutes, while limiting the Bearcats to 33.3 percent (9-for-27) and forcing 19 turnovers.
Michigan led by as many as 73 points, with all 14 Wolverines seeing action. U-M held a 43-20 advantage on the glass and recorded 29 assists on 45 made field goals.
The Wolverines will return to action on Friday (Nov. 21), traveling to Uncasville, Conn., to face No. 1-ranked UConn in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on Fox.
