
Michigan to Travel to Kentucky for Cullen Brown Collegiate

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Riding a streak of three straight top-four finishes, the University of Michigan men's golf team will travel to Lexington, Ky., for the Cullen Brown Collegiate, hosted by Kentucky, Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 6-7) at Lexington Country Club. The Wolverines will make their first appearance in Lexington in 22 years, having last competed in the 2003 Johnny Owens Invitational at the University Club. The 15-team field will play a 54-hole format (36-18) on a par-71 course measuring 7,255 yards.
Notes
• The Cullen Brown Collegiate will feature 15 teams: Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Memphis, Michigan, Mississippi State, NC State, North Alabama, Penn State, Toledo, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Western Kentucky.
• U-M will travel five starters and one individual to the event. The Wolverine lineup will feature an all-sophomore starting five of RJ Arone, Dean Muratore, Nilay Naik, Nicolas Simon and Johnny Solis. Freshman Jordan Hwang will also make the trip and compete as an individual.
• Michigan has posted eight of its nine team rounds under par this season, producing three straight sub-par 54-hole totals to open the fall. Through nine rounds, the Wolverines boast a 277.33 team scoring average, highlighted by five sub-280 rounds, including a program record–tying 267 (-21) in the final round of the Island Resort Intercollegiate.
• Across its first three 54-hole events, Michigan is a combined 72-under par, recording three consecutive sub-par team totals -- 822 (-42) at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, 839 (-25) at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational and 835 (-5) at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate. The Wolverines are averaging 832.00 per event during that stretch.
• Michigan's starting five have combined for 27 under-par rounds in 45 opportunities, along with five rounds at even par. Overall, U-M has produced 32 sub-par rounds and five at par through three tournaments. Collectively, the Wolverines are averaging 71.18 strokes per round this season.
• Michigan has recorded 12 sub-par finishes across its last 20 54-hole events. The Wolverines are averaging nearly two strokes under par with a 213.55 team scoring average. Muratore holds the program record with his 196 (-14) at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate -- the lowest 54-hole total in school history and just the second sub-200 total ever by a Wolverine.
• Muratore was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week following his victory at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate. He became only the second Wolverine in program history to break the 200-stroke mark, earning his first career medalist honor with a program-record 196 (-14, 66-64-66). His total surpassed the previous record of 198 (69-65-65) set by Kyle Mueller at the 2015 Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
• Muratore has opened the season with eight of nine rounds under par, posting an impressive 68.22 scoring average. He fired a career-low 64 (-6) in the second round of the Jim DeLapa Collegiate, helping him capture his first career individual title. He has led the Wolverines in two of three events this fall.
• Arone has also opened the season strong with eight of nine rounds under par and a 69.00 scoring average. He has posted three straight top-10 finishes, highlighted by a career-best tie for fifth at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational (208, -8) and a career-low 205 (-11) at the Island Resort Intercollegiate.
