
Tapper Sets Program Shot Put Record for Third Straight Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Elizabeth Tapper of the University of Michigan women's track and field team for the third straight meet set the program record in the shot put to close out the Crossroads of America Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 25) at Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavillion.
Tapper's best throw of the day came on her first attempt, throwing for 17.32 meters (56 feet, 10 inches) to finish third and once again set the program standard. Abigail Russell and Trinity Franklin also competed in the shot put, finishing seventh (14.95m/49-0.75) and 10th (14.19m/46-6.75), respectively.
Freshman Kourtney Rathke set a personal best in the pole vault, clearing 3.94m (12-11) to finish 15th. Rathke moves up from 10th on the program performers list to No. 8. In the triple jump, Riley Ammenhauser jumped for a season-best 12.39m (40-7.75) and a fifth-place finish.
Aasia Laurencin ran in the finals of two events, finishing first in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.14 seconds and finishing fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.65.
The Wolverines saw three top-10 finishes in the 400-meter dash, with Savannah Sutherland finishing first (52.03), Payton Smith finishing third with a personal-best time of 54.29, and Sidney Green finishing 10th (55.07). Smith's mark remains No. 10 on the program performers list, just 0.02 seconds behind the No. 9 mark.
In the 800-meter run, the Maize and Blue earned four top-10 finishes. Samantha Hastie took third (2:09.83), Alyna Lewis was fifth (2:11.33), Coraline Haggarty finished seventh (2:13.40), and Emma Thomas took 10th with a personal-best time of 2:15.65.
U-M will remain on the road next week, heading to Louisville, Ky., on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) for the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by Louisville.
