
Sutherland Sets Record on Day One of Crossroads of America Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS -- Savannah Sutherland of the University of Michigan women's track and field team set the program 200-meter dash record on Day 1 at the Crossroads of America Invitational on Friday (Jan. 24).
Sutherland won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.26, besting the previous standard of 23.49 that she set at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational (Jan. 18).
Amare Harlan and Payton Smith also ran the 200-meter dash, finishing fourth (23.70) and tying for sixth (24.08), respectively. Harlan's time comes in at No. 3 on the program performers list while Smith's is No. 8.
Aasia Laurencin advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles after placing sixth in the first round with a time of 8.38. Laurencin will also compete in the 60-meter dash finals, qualifying with a time of 7.61 and a seventh-place finish.
In the 600-meter run, Alyna Lewis posted a personal-best time of 1:33.23 to finish third while Coraline Haggarty (1:35.01) finished 10th and Emma Thomas (1:35.16) finished 11th.
Rylee Tolson (9:28.58) and Mary Caroline Heinen (9:31.02) finish 1-2 in the 3,000-meter run, with Emily Tomes (9:49.48) finishing ninth and Leah Hill (9:50.87) finishing 11th. Tolson, Heinen, and Tomes all posted personal bests.
Harlan posted her second personal best of the day in the long jump, jumping 6.04m (19-9.75) to finish fourth and rank No. 9 on the program performers list.
Freshman Abigail Russell continues to have a strong debut season, finishing eighth in the weight throw (18.92m, 62-1) and coming just 0.01m from tying her personal best.
The Maize and Blue will conclude the Crossroads of America Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 25). Field events will begin at 11 a.m. with the shot put and the track events will begin at 11:45 a.m. with the mile run.
