ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan softball team was unable to rebound after a two-run third inning on Saturday (May 4), falling 6-0 to Ohio State at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field at Carol Hutchins Stadium.
After two scoreless innings, the Buckeyes struck in the top of the third, when a potential double play was ruled to have resulted in no outs, giving way to a 2-0 lead for Ohio State. A bases-loaded opportunity in the top of the fifth for OSU was shut down by Hannah George, who recorded the final out of the inning against her first batter faced.
A late-game push by the Wolverines saw Ella McVey advance to third in the bottom of the sixth, in a journey that started with her base hit. Michigan could not capitalize on the opportunity and the Buckeyes found four insurance runs in the next half-inning, setting the score at its ultimate final tally of 6-0.
The Wolverines celebrate their senior class in the final game of the regular season on Sunday (May 5), with U-M seeking a series victory against Ohio State at Alumni Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
