Wolverines' Season Ends with Regional Final Loss to No. 3 Seed Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Michigan softball team concluded its 2026 season with an 8-1 loss to No. 3-seeded Oklahoma in the NCAA Regional final Sunday afternoon (May 17) at Love's Field.
The Wolverines fell behind early and could not recover as Oklahoma plated runs in five of seven innings, including three in the opening frame.
The Sooners used a leadoff double and a walk to put two aboard in the first before an RBI single to left center opened the scoring. A hit batter loaded the bases with no outs, and after a popout and a fielder's choice at the plate cut down a run, a two-run single to left pushed the lead to 3-0.
Oklahoma added another run in the second after a leadoff walk came around to score on a sacrifice fly, but Michigan answered in the home half. Junior RHP/designated player Erin Hoehn launched a solo home run to left-center for her second homer of the regional and sixth this season.
OU added solo home runs in the fourth and seventh innings and scored twice in the fifth on an RBI double and a bases-loaded walk.
The Wolverines generated limited offense with just three hits. Junior leftfielder Ella Stephenson and senior third baseman Maddie Erickson recorded singles in the first and second innings, respectively, both with two outs. U-M stranded two runners in the game.
Junior RHP Gabby Ellis (15-8) started and took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks over 1.2 innings.
Michigan finished the season 36-21 and made its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 29th in the last 30 seasons.
