ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (4-2) continues its three-match homestand hosting Notre Dame (3-2) on Friday (Feb. 9) at 5 p.m. and No. 2 TCU (5-0) on Tuesday (Feb. 13) at 6 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center. Admission to both matches is free.
Notes
• Michigan began its homestand with a 4-1 win over Washington on Sunday (Feb. 4). The Wolverines took the doubles point and won three of four singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory.
• The Wolverines are 4-2 on the season and ranked No. 13 in the latest ITA national poll. The squad is a perfect 4-0 when playing at the Varsity Tennis Center, with its two losses coming on the road.Â
• Notre Dame is 3-2 on the season, winning its first three matches of the season before falling at No. 10 Kentucky and Nebraska. Michigan is 49-32 all-time against the Fighting Irish and has won the last five meetings.
• TCU is 5-0 and ranked No. 2 in the latest ITA poll and returns seven letterwinners from last season's NCAA semifinal team. Michigan is 3-5 in the series, including a 4-1 setback that ended U-M's season in the NCAA quarterfinals last spring. The Wolverines last defeated the Horned Frogs in 2022 when they upset the then-ranked No. 1 TCU 4-1 on its home court, when Michigan was ranked No. 26.
• Gavin Young is 8-7 in singles play and ranked No. 17 in the latest ITA rankings. Ten of his 15 opponents this season have been ranked, going 5-5 against them. In dual singles, he is 2-3 at No. 1 and is one win away from his 30th career dual singles victory.
• Jacob Bickersteth is ranked No. 48 -- the highest of his career. He is 13-4 in singles play this season and 4-1 in dual play, while closing in on his 50th dual singles win, sitting at 46-16.
• Patorn Hanchaikul is in the rankings for the first time in his career, coming in at No. 125. He is 7-4 in singles this season and 4-1 in dual matches. The junior had a career-best seven-match win streak this season, including the match-clinching win over No. 55 Neel Rajesh of Stanford to send Michigan to the ITA Indoor National Championship.
• Nicholas Steiglehner reached the 10-win mark on Sunday as he stays a clean 3-0 in his dual singles matches. Only Nino Ehrenschneider has more consecutive wins, with four.
