ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan basketball team returns to Ann Arbor to take on No. 3 Purdue for the second time in the regular season on Sunday (Feb. 25) at Crisler Center. Earlier this season, the then-No. 2 ranked Boilermakers claimed a 99-67 win over the Wolverines at Mackey Arena. The rematch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be televised on CBS with Kevin Harlan and Dan Bonner on the call.
Notes
• In Michigan's last five meetings with Purdue, the Boilermakers have been ranked among the nation's top 5 each time. U-M is 1-3 during the four-game stretch so far with its lone win vs. No. 3 Purdue (82-58) coming at Crisler Center during the 2021-22 season (Feb. 10, 2022).
• U-M carries a 75-92 all-time record with Purdue, however, the Maize and Blue have won seven of the last 10 games. With a 45-35 mark in Ann Arbor, U-M has continued that success, winning seven of its last eight games at Crisler.
• Last Time in Ann Arbor (Jan. 26, 2023), while Hunter Dickinson won the battle of the big men, scoring 21 points to Zach Edey's 19, Michigan fell short against top-ranked Purdue, 75-70. With 7:46 left to play in the first half and U-M leading 28-26, Purdue went on a 15-0 run to take a 13-point lead which the Wolverines could not overcome despite pulling within one possession late in the second half.
• Earlier this season (Jan. 23, 2024), Michigan fell behind early and was unable to fight its way back into the game as No 2-ranked Purdue defeated the Wolverines 99-67 at Mackey Arena. Jaelin Llewellyn led U-M with 16 points, while Terrance Williams II scored 10 points and pulled in eight rebounds. George Washington III came off the bench to record a career-high 10 points.
• Michigan announced the loss of Olivier Nkamhoua after his season-ending, but successful, surgery (Feb. 20) on his left wrist. He will have a 3-4 month recovery period. He was averaging 14.8 points and 7.1 rebounds.
• U-M averages 8.2 three-pointers per game. Williams leads the Wolverines from deep with 46 threes, while Nimari Burnett has 45 and Dug McDaniel has 44. The trio combines for 134 of 222 made this season -- good for 61 percent.
• Over his last four games, Burnett has averaged 12.3 points, collecting three games in double-figures, while shooting 67.8 percent (19-for-28) from the field and 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from long range. In fact, over his last two games, he has gone 10-for-12 from the field (83.3 percent).
• Over his last six games, Tarris Reed Jr. has five double-figure games, is averaging 12.4 points per game and has grabbed 9.0 rebounds per game, including his career-best of 15 against Rutgers (Feb. 3). With a team-best 42 blocks, he cracked U-M's all-time top 20 (17th) with 73. He needs 27 to become the 12th Wolverine to reach 100 in his career.
• After a dip in his scoring production, Williams has rebounded in his last four outings, posting three double-figure games and shooting close to 50 percent (48.3). He has 20 double-figure games this season, doubling his career total of 10 he compiled through his first three seasons.
• Will Tschetter has consistently shot above 50-plus percent from long range the entire season. Currently, he sits at 55.6 percent (25-for-45) and is 6-for-12 over his last five games. A year ago, he was just 5-for-20 (25 percent).
• Starting in place of Nkamhoua, Tray Jackson posted his second double-figure game with 10 points at Northwestern (Feb. 22), while adding five rebounds.
• Michigan (3-11) and Butler (4-10) have played the most NCAA Quad 1 games. U-M (20) trails only conference mate Wisconsin (21) for the most combined Quad 1 & 2 games. The Wolverines have the No. 3 strength of schedule according to the NCAA Net and the top overall by KenPom, ESPN BPI and the KPI.
