
Gordon Leads Wolverines to Sixth-Place Regional Finish

NORTON, Ohio -- The University of Michigan women's cross country team finished sixth (202 points) at the Great Lakes Regional on Friday (Nov. 15) at the Silver Creek Metro Park.
Notre Dame won the meet with 51 points, while Wisconsin placed second (97). Toledo (100), Michigan State (111) and Ohio State (156 points) rounded out the top five. The Fighting Irish and the Badgers both earned an automatic bid to next Saturday's (Nov. 23) NCAA Championships.
Penelopea Gordon continued her breakout debut season. She sat in 10th place through the first two kilometers, with Mary Caroline Heinen behind her in 14th place.
Dropping five spots, Gordon sat in 15th heading into the final kilometer while Heinen also saw a drop in position (29th). Gordon moved back into 10th as she crossed the finish line, seeing a personal best time of 19:49.9. Heinen remained in 29th place (20:22.4). Samantha Hastie finished 49th (20:40.8) and Jadyn Zdanavage finished 50th (20:41.5). Gordon earned All-Region Honors as a top-25 finisher.
Michigan will learn its NCAA Championships fate during the NCAA Selection Show, which will be streamed live on Saturday (Nov. 16) at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com. If selected, the Wolverines will head to Madison, Wis., to compete at the NCAA Championships.
