ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team (11-2, 4-1 Big Ten) will close out the home portion of their regular season this weekend, hosting No. 1 Northwestern (15-0, 5-0 Big Ten) at 4 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 25) and Indiana (7-7, 2-3 Big Ten) at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 27) at Phyllis Ocker Field.
Notes
• The Wolverines will honor six seniors -- Lora Clarke, Kate McLaughlin, Pilar Oliveros, Erin Reilly, Alana Richardson and Lindsey Stagg -- prior to Sunday's game. Over the last five years, this senior class has contributed to a 65-24 record, a Big Ten regular-season title, two Big Ten Tournament crowns, and U-M's NCAA runner-up finish in spring 2021.
• The Wolverines' 11-game winning streak was snapped with a 2-0 defeat at No. 8 Maryland last Sunday (Oct. 20). The streak tied Michigan's longest since starting 11-0 in fall 2021. Michigan has outscored opponents 53-6 over the stretch.
• Michigan ranks second in the Big Ten standings with a 4-1 record against league opponents. Northwestern sits atop the conference at 5-0. U-M has earned shutouts in all four of its conference wins: Michigan State (3-0, Sept. 23), Ohio State (1-0, Oct. 6), Rutgers (4-0, Oct. 11), and Penn State (6-0, Oct. 18).
• Michigan is 3-2 against ranked opponents this season, with wins over No. 18 Wake Forest (2-1, Sept. 1), No. 4 Ohio State, and No. 16 Penn State.
• U-M has earned shutouts in seven of its last nine games, including four of five Big Ten matches. U-M ranks seventh nationally with a 0.92 goals-against average and fourth with a 0.54 shutouts-per-game average. Individually, sophomore/freshman goalkeeper Hala Silverstein ranks eighth with a 0.99 goals-against average. She owns two complete-game shutouts this season and has combined with senior/junior Caylie McMahon for five more.
• Thirteen U-M players have scored at least one goal this season, including six different goal scorers in Michigan's win at Penn State. Senior/junior Abby Tamer leads the Wolverines and has career highs in goals (11), assists (12), and points (34). Graduate student Kate McLaughlin tallied her first goal in over a month at Penn State -- her 10th of the season -- after missing nearly all of the previous five games due to injury. With 54 goals this season, the Wolverines have long surpassed their 2023 total of 38.
• The Wolverines rank second nationally with a 4.15 goals-per-game average and third with a 3.23 scoring margin. Tamer ranks 12th nationally with 0.85 goals per game, fourth with 0.85 assists per game, and sixth with 2.54 points per game. Three Wolverine players are among the nation's top 50 in scoring average.
