
Amene Sets Meet Record as U-M Wins Simmons-Harvey Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team continued its strong start to the season, winning the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 20) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. Dubem Amene led the Wolverine effort, running a meet-record race.
Amene ran a 46.17-second 400-meter dash, breaking the meet record and posting the No. 1 time in the NCAA. This is Amene's second straight record-setting meet. Tom Brady ran a personal-best 7:58.06 in the 3000-meter run, recording the No. 13 time in the NCAA as well as the No. 7 time in program history. Both Amene and Brady won their respective events.
In the 60-meter hurdles, the Wolverines took two of the top three spots after a second-place finish from Benny Diaz (8.21) and a third-place finish from Adam Wright (8.32).
U-M earned 15 points in both the 600-meter run and the 800-meter runs after capturing first and third places in both events. Miles Brown won the 600m with a time of 1:17.10, the No. 3 time in the NCAA, while John O'Reilly finished third with a personal-best time of 1:18.61. In the 800m, Camden Law saw a first-place finish (1:50.78) and Trent McFarland saw a third-place finish and personal best (1:51.22).
Nick Foster won the mile with a time of 3:59.89 for the ninth-best time in the NCAA to contribute nine points, while Ian Hill finished seventh (4:08.01) to contribute three points.
Berachiah Ajala and Tianhao Wei led the jumpers' performances, with Ajala finishing third in the long jump (7.05m/23 feet, 1.75 inches) and second in the triple jump (14.93m/48 feet, 11.75 inches); Wei finished fourth in the long jump (7.00m/22 feet, 11.75 inches) and winning the triple jump (15.36m/50 feet, 4.75 inches). Wei's triple-jump mark was a personal best and the No. 25 mark in the NCAA as well as the No. 9 mark in program history.
Eli Winter recorded a personal-best weight throw mark of 20.56m (67 feet, 5.5 inches) to win the event, contributing nine points with the No. 30 mark in the NCAA. Zane Forist's' fifth-place finish (18.55m/60 feet, 10.5 inches) contributed four points.
The Maize and Blue will close out a three-meet homestand, hosting the Michigan Invitational next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 26-27) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. Competition is slated to begin at noon on Friday (Jan. 26) and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 27).
