
Michigan to Host Simon Fraser in Saturday Exhibition

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team will play an exhibition game against Simon Fraser, a team out of British Columbia, on Saturday (Sept. 30) at 7 p.m., inside Yost Ice Arena. The game will be streamed liv eon B1G+.
Notes
• Saturday's exhibition game against Simon Fraser was solidified after the NCAA granted a waiver for the teams to play ahead of the official competition state date of Oct. 7. The contest will be the first-ever between the two teams.
• Simon Fraser, located in Burnaby, British Columbia, is the only Canadian University affiliated with the NCAA. Its club hockey team plays in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League.
• Michigan is coming off its second straight Big Ten Tournament championship and Frozen Four appearance, after posting a 26-12-3 record last year under then interim head coach Brandon Naurato.
• The Wolverines return 17 lettermen from last year's squad and lost 10 players, including Hobey Baker Award winner Adam Fantilli and All-American defenseman Luke Hughes. They bring in four freshmen, two transfers and four graduate transfers.
• Senior Jacob Truscott was named the captain of Team 103. Alternates captains include Dylan Duke, Ethan Edwards, Philippe Lapointe and Marshall Warren.
• Michigan led the nation in scoring offense last season, averaging 4.20 goals per game. The Wolverines return 43.8 percent of its scoring after losing the top three scorers in Fantilli (65 pts), Hughes (48 points) and Mackie Samoskevich (43 pts). The team returns four 30-point scorers including Rutger McGroarty (39 pts), Gavin Brindley (38 pts), T.J. Hughes (36 pts) and Dylan Duke (32 pts).
• In the net, the Wolverines have options with senior Noah West and grad transfer Jacob Barczewski, four-year starter from Canisius. Andrew Albano, a graduate transfer from Division-III powerhouse Norwich provides backup.
• The Wolverines were selected by the league's coaches to finish second in the annual Big Ten Preseason Poll. Brindley and Casey were named to the preseason all-Big Ten first team, McGroarty and Frank Nazar III were named to the second team and Duke is an honorable mention.
