
Michigan to Kick Off Season Hosting Michigan Open

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's cross country team will start the 2023 season by hosting the Michigan Open on Friday (Sept. 1) at 5 p.m. at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich.
Notes
• The Wolverines look to build off a successful 2022 season, finishing second at the Big Ten Championships and 29th at the NCAA Championships.
• The Michigan men check in at No. 4 in the Great Lakes region; Big Ten foe Wisconsin paces the field at No. 1 while Notre Dame (No. 2) and Butler (No. 3) round out the top four.
• Michigan returns four of its top five finishers from last year's NCAA Championships, including graduate student Tom Brady who placed in the top 60.
• Zach Stewart is poised to get his 2023 campaign off to a strong start after finishing eighth at the Big Ten Championships and 153rd at the NCAA Championships in 2022. Stewart set a personal best at last season's Michigan Open with a 5K time of 15:18.3 which was good for third place overall.
• Graduate student Nick Foster will look to continue his run of dominance at the Michigan Open, winning the meet in 2021 while running unattached and placing fourth and setting a 5K personal best running for Michigan last season.
• Colton Yesney has enjoyed consistent success at the Michigan Open, finishing fifth last season and posting a third-place finish in 2021 which paced the Wolverines.
• Five sophomores -- Peter Baracco, Riley Flemington, Ian Hill, Jack Kelke and Myles Liss-Riordan -- will make their Michigan cross country debuts on Friday.
• After the Michigan Open, the Wolverines will travel to Charlottesville, Va., for the Virginia Invitational on Sept. 23.
