ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Five members of the University of Michigan softball team were named to the 2023 Academic All-District Softball Teams on Tuesday (May 16) by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization.
Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom, the CSC Academic All-District honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through at least two semesters. U-M's honorees include sophomore right-handed pitcher Emerson Aiken, graduate-student outfielder Lexie Blair, sophomore RHP Lauren Derkowski, graduate-student first baseman Melina Livingston and sophomore shortstop Ella McVey.
All five Wolverines earn the distinction for the first time in their collegiate careers. Livingston, who graduated this spring with a master's degree in movement science, will be a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree when the conference office announces its spring sport selections and is poised to begin another graduate program -- in prosthetics and orthotics -- at Northwestern next fall.
Blair, the 2021 Big Ten Player of the Year and a four-time All-Big Ten first team selection, is slated to earn her master's degree in sport management this December after earning a bachelor's in communication and media last spring.
Aiken (biology, health & society), Derkowski (industrial & operations engineering) and McVey (communication and media with a minor in entrepreneurship) all secured the honor in the first year of eligibility.
All academic all-district honorees will now advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America selections will be announced Tuesday, June 6.
Michigan has garnered 16 Academic All-America citations in program history, most recently placing Sara Driesenga on the first team in 2016.
