
Zeller Claims 110-Meter Hurdles at Jim Green Invitational

The University of Michigan women's track and field team concluded its competition at the Penn Relays and the Jim Green Invitational on Saturday (April 29) at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa., and Lexington, Ky., respectively. The Wolverines ended the day behind three event wins and multiple career-bests.
Jim Green Invitational
Josh Zeller came back strong after minimal competition in the beginning of the outdoor season. Competing in one of his strongest events, the senior claimed the 110-meter hurdles. He delivered strong performances in preliminaries and finals, winning preliminaries with a time of 13.75 and following it up with a victory in the finals running 13.79. Adam Wright also performed well in preliminaries, taking eighth with a career-best time of 15.09 and re-set his career best with s 14.98 -- good for seventh place.
The Wolverines saw multiple career bests in the 400 meters, with Jacob Koerner, Lawrence Gilliam, Nick Butler-Simpson and Jack Juds all competing. They finished sixth (Koerner, career-best 47.72), eighth (Gilliam, 48.15), 13th (Butler-Simpson, career-best 49.33), and 14th (Juds, career-best 49.90) respectively. A similar group took to the 4x400-meter relay later in the day, made up by Dubem Amene, Gilliam, Juds, and Koerner. Their time of 3:16.98 secured a third-place finish, ending 12 seconds ahead of fourth-place Campbellsville.
Mason Mahacek took part in the throwing events, competing in the shot put and discus. He finished ninth in the shot put with a career-best throw of 12.81 meters (42 feet, 0.5 inches) and eighth in the discus 39.28 meters (128 feet, 10 inches).
In the pole vault, Henry Sheldon and Cole Sheldon took third and fourth place, respectively. Both cleared 4.68 meters (15 feet, 4.25 inches) on their second attempts at the height. Cole also cleared 4.53 meters (14 feet, 10.25 inches) prior, while Henry passed on that height.
Penn Relays
Michigan competed two distance races on the meet's final day, with the 4xmile and 4x800 relays. Oli Raimond, Arjun Jha, Ian Hill and Michael Hancock fought hard in the 4xmile relay, despite some struggles. Jha ran the fastest mile of the group, with a time of 3:59.55. He was one of only four runners to do so over the course of the event. Hill ran a career-best mile with a leg of 4:04.59 -- two seconds faster than his individual best. With a combined time of 16:16.00, the Wolverines finished eighth. Riley Flemington, Michael Hancock, Anthony Hancock and Henry Johnson ran the 4x800 relay later in the day to close out action for the Michigan men. Their time of 7:29.69 earned a 10th-place finish.
Zane Forist competed in the discus, claiming fifth place with a heave of 54.23 meters (177 feet, 11 inches).
The Wolverines will compete in their last meet of the regular season on Friday (May 5) at Indiana's Billy Hayes Invitational.
