
Wolverines Pick Up NCAA 'A' Cut on Day One of Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the first day of the Georgia Invitational on Thursday (Nov. 16) inside Gabrielsen Natatorium on Thursday (Nov. 16), competing in six events (four individual, two relays) to open the three-day meet.
After day one, the Wolverines are in third place with 202 points; Florida leads with 292 points.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Stephanie Balduccini, Claire Newman, Brady Kendall and Lindsay Flynn finished second among 18 relay teams with a time of 1:27.52 which met the NCAA 'A' standard for championship qualification.
Hannah Bellard led all Wolverines in the 500 free, touching the wall at 4:38.44 to earn fifth overall. Katie Crom paced the B-final with a mark of 4:41.21.
Balduccini notched another top-five result, this time in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:56.94. Teammate Devon Kitchel finished just behind Balduccini, registering a mark of 1:58.54.
The Maize and Blue took second and third in the 50 free as Newman and Flynn logged times of 22.10 and 22.13 seconds, respectively. Kendall finished sixth overall with a mark of 22.39.
In the diving well, Kiarra Milligan finished fourth in the one-meter dive, racking up 278.95 points. Taylor Peters and Chrismon Clark finished fifth and sixth in the event.
The Wolverines will return to Gabrielsen Natatorium on Friday (Nov. 17) for day two of the Georgia Invitational. The preliminaries will start at 9:30 a.m. with the finals set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
