INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- After earning All-Region honors and placing in the top 10 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Kayla Windemuller of the University of Michigan women's cross country team was selected as an individual qualifier for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, the association announced on Saturday (Nov. 11) on the NCAA selection show.
Windemuller punched her ticket to Charlottesville, Va., as one of the top four finishers at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional that is not a part of a qualifying team.
Windemuller has been consistent all season, finishing as the top Wolverine in all six races she has started in 2023. The graduate student posted top-10 individual results in five of six meets, including running to eighth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday (Nov. 10).
Against the best in the region, Windemuller started in 15th through the first 2,000 meters of the 6k regional race. True to form, Windemuller steadily gained ground, picking up five spots to enter the top 10 through 4k before passing two more runners over the final stretch to finish eighth and earn All-Region honors for the second time in her career.
Windemuller will join the Michigan men's cross country team, who earned an at-large bid on Saturday (Nov. 11) by virtue of its regular season performance and a third-place result at the Great Lakes Regional.
The NCAA Championships are set for next Saturday (Nov. 18) with the women's 6k race starting at 10:20 a.m. The race will be streamed on ESPNU.
