
Michigan to Play for B1G Tournament Title This Weekend

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team competes for the Big Ten Tournament title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament this weekend in Madison, Wis. The No. 2 seed in the tournament, the Wolverines earn a first-round bye and will face either Indiana or Penn State in the quarterfinals on Friday (April 29) at 3 p.m. CDT. The semifinal will be Saturday (April 30) at 3 p.m. CDT and the championship match on Sunday (May 1) at noon CDT.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan is 19-3 on the season and posted an 8-1 record in Big Ten play.
• The Wolverines recorded the most wins in conference play with eight and finished as the No. 2 seed behind No. 1 seed OSU, which did not play a full nine matches.
• The Wolverines are ranked No. 7 in the ITA computerized rankings and have been as high as No. 5 this season.
• Michigan's doubles teams have been strong this season, winning the point in 19 of 22 matches helping the team to an early lead.
• Two doubles teams are ranked nationally -- No. 28 Ondrej Styler/Gavin Young and No. 36 Andrew Fenty/Nino Ehrenschneider. Both pairs are 8-5 in dual play with Fenty/Ehrenschneider holding a 16-5 overall record.
• Patrick Maloney/Nick Beaty are riding a 12-match win streak, are 14-1 in dual play and 15-2 overall.
• Three Wolverines have reached the 20-win double mark: Nick Beaty, Nino Ehrenschneider and Patrick Maloney while Andrew Fenty is one win away with 19.
• Maloney is the reigning B1G Athlete of the Week, his second time capturing the weekly honor this season. He has the longest unbeaten singles streak on the team at 11 and is 13-1 in dual play, going a perfect 5-0 in the B1G.
• Maloney and Jacob Bickersteth joined the Michigan 20/20 club, the first to do so since Fenty in 2019.
• Young has the most singles wins on the team with 25. The B1G Singles Champion in the fall is 14-3 in dual play and went 7-1 in the B1G. He is No. 94 in the national rankings.
• Ehrenschneider is on an eight-match win streak and is 10-1 in dual play. He went 5-0 in the B1G and is ranked No. 103 nationally.
• The highest-ranked singles player is No. 30 Ondrej Styler. He boasts the best win percentage on the team at 81 percent while going 14-3 in dual play and 8-1 in the B1G.
• Bickersteth, ranked No. 61, has won his last four matches and is 20-8 overall, 14-2 in duals and 4-1 in the B1G.
• Fenty, ranked No. 63, is 11-8 on the season, 7-6 in dual play and went 2-3 in the B1G.
• Michigan has not won the Big Ten Tournament since it started in 1999. The Wolverines are 20-22 all-time in the tournament, with their best finish being second (2007, 2013, 2017).
