AUGUSTA, Ga. -- University of Michigan women's golf senior Ashley Lau has been added to the list of competitors following her invitation to the 2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur, March 30-April 2, at the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. She joins teammate Hailey Borja, who was invited to play in mid-January.
With an international field of women amateurs, the field will compete in a 54-hole stroke-play event. Starting with 36 holes at the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club, on Wednesday and Thursday, March 30-31, the field will be cut down to the top 30, who will advance to Augusta National.
The entire field will play an official practice round at Augusta on Friday, April 1, while the final advancing 30 will play a final round on Saturday, April 2.
A 2021 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America honorable mention selection and All-Big Ten first teamer, Lau has had a stellar senior season, currently on pace to set the program record with her 71.81 scoring average. In seven events, she has four top-five finishes, including two individual titles and a runner-up finish.
As a freshman, she earned the program's fourth individual invitation to the NCAA Regional competition. After COVID-19 canceled all 2020 postseason events, she helped guide U-M to a tie for fifth at the Columbus Regional, advancing the Wolverines to their fourth NCAA Finals appearance. Starting all 34 of her career events, she has 17 top-20 individual finishes and has carried a 73.39 career scoring average.
The 2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion, as long as they retain their amateur status, will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women's Amateurs -- the 2022 U.S. Women's Open, the 2022 Women's British Open, and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships -- for which she is eligible for one year.
Tickets will be available in advance via an application process. No tickets will be available at the gates.
