
All-America Performances by MacNeil, Relay Team Keep U-M in Ninth at NCAAs

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team earned two All-America honors and two All-America honorable mentions on the third day of competition at the NCAA Championships on Friday (March 18) at McAuley Aquatic Center. The Wolverines held steady in ninth place in the team standings, adding 60 points for 126 total, just 10 points out of sixth place.
Maggie MacNeil claimed yet another bronze at the NCAA Championships, this time in the 100-yard butterfly. MacNeil led through the first 50 yards and finished in third with a season-best time of 49.18, good for All-America honors. Olivia Carter topped the B final, out-touching Alabama's Rhyan White by 0.03 of a second and setting a new personal-best time of 50.82 while earning All-America honorable mention.
Letitia Sim shined for the Wolverines in the 100 breaststroke, finishing second in the consolation final and 10th overall after qualifying 16th in prelims. She cruised to a personal-best time of 58.34 and earned All-America honorable mention.
In the final event of the night, the quartet of MacNeil, Sim, Carter and Lindsay Flynn raced to a fifth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:27.20, earning All-America honors.
In the prelims, Victoria Kwan and Kathryn Ackerman kicked off the day for the Wolverines in the 400-yard individual medley. Kwan just missed a personal-best time, finishing 24th in 4:10.21. Ackerman placed 28th with a time of 4:11.60.
MacNeil was the fifth-fastest in the 100 fly prelims, finishing second in her heat with a time of 50.76 to advance to the A final. In the sixth heat, Carter clocked in at 51.43 to finish 12th overall to advance to the B final.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Megan Glass finished 40th overall with a time of 1:46.47.
Sim was the final Wolverine to swim in the prelims, earning the last spot in the 100 breast B final with a time of 59.29.
In the three-meter springboard competition, Allie Klein finished in 45th place with a score of 251.00.
