
Michigan Finishes Seventh at NCAAs; Carter Ties for Second in 200-yard Butterfly

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team finished seventh with 184.5 points at the 2022 NCAA Championships, moving up two places on the final day of competition Saturday (March 19) at McAuley Aquatic Center.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Olivia Carter went a blistering 1:51.19, a personal-best time, to tie Stanford's Reagan Smith for second place. Carter was in fifth place with 100 yards to go, then kicked it into gear to move up three spots.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Maggie MacNeil and Lindsay Flynn touched the wall second and third in the consolation final, finishing 10th and 11th overall. MacNeil clocked 47.21 and Flynn went a personal-best time of 47.67.
In the final event of the night, the 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of Claire Newman, Flynn, MacNeil and Carter tied for fourth with a time of 3:09.95 to push Michigan into the seventh-place team finish.
MacNeil and Flynn both advanced to the B final in the 100 freestyle to start off the final day of the NCAA Championships. Newman finished 36th with a time of 48.70, just missing her personal-best time, and Megan Glass finished 56th with a time of 49.64.
Letitia Sim picked up yet another personal best during the NCAA Championships, this time in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.19 to finish 18th.
In the 200 fly, Carter swam her way into the A final after winning her heat and finishing fourth in the prelims with a time of 1:51.86. Victoria Kwan finished 25th with a time of 1:55.56.
Kathryn Shanley was the fastest Wolverine in the 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing in 24th place with a time of 16:11.17. Kaitlynn Sims clocked a time of 16:30.66 to place 41st.
Lucy Hogan had a great diving series to finish 24th on the platform with a score of 251.10.
