
MacNeil Claims Bronze in 50 Free, Helps Relay to Seventh on Day Two of NCAAs

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team posted top-eight finishes in two events to move up two spots into ninth place on the second day of competition at the NCAA Championships Thursday (March 17) at McAuley Aquatic Center.
In the 50-yard freestyle final, Maggie MacNeil shined for Michigan once again, as she went a blistering 21.38 to finish third, earning All-America honors and 16 points for the Wolverines.
In the final event of the night, the quartet of MacNeil, Claire Newman, Olivia Carter and Lindsay Flynn finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.04, good for All-America honors and 24 team points.
During the prelims, Kathryn Ackerman and Kathryn Shanley finished 37th and 39th, respectively, in the 500 freestyle. Letitia Sim was the fastest Wolverine in the 200 individul medley, finishing 21st with a time of 1:56.50. Right behind her was Victoria Kwan, who finished 28th with a time of 1:56.88.
In the prelims of the 50 freestyle, MacNeil raced her way to a second-place finish in her heat and fourth overall to advance to the A final. Flynn was the next Wolverine to finish with a time of 22.12, setting a new personal-best time to finish tied for 25th.
Allie Klein battled through all six dives on the one-meter springboard to finish 32nd with a score of 264.45.
The NCAA Championships run through Saturday (March 20) at McAuley Aquatic Center with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. daily. All sessions will be streamed live on ESPN3.
