ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team begins a five-match homestand on Monday (March 14) when it hosts No. 16-ranked Columbia. First serve is at 6 p.m., at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Lions are the first of three-straight ranked teams on the docket, as Michigan hosts No. 2 Ohio State in a non-conference match on Friday (March 18) and No. 5 Baylor on Sunday (March 20) in the final matches before the Big Ten season begins.
WOLVERINE BITES
• Michigan is ranked No. 11 in the latest ITA rankings with a 7-2 record.
• The Wolverines have been idle after taking down No. 1 TCU 4-1 and UCF 7-0 during their spring break week.
• Michigan is on a four-match win streak and is also 4-0 at home this season.
• All eight Wolverines who have played dual singles are at .571 or better.
• Jacob Bickersteth is 7-1 in dual singles (2-1 at No. 2, 5-0 at No. 3) and has won his last three matches while being ranked No. 72.
• Two-time B1G Athlete of the Week Andrew Fenty has won his last three singles matches.
• Ondrej Styler earned B1G Athlete of the Week on March 8 after he clinched the Wolverines' win over TCU, winning in singles and doubles and earning another singles win at TCU.
• Patrick Maloney and Nick Beaty are both on four-match win streaks and as a pair are 5-1 in doubles.
• Nino Ehrenschneider/Andrew Fenty are ranked No. 10 with a 12-3 overall mark and 4-2 in duals.
• Styler/Gavin Young have proven to be a steady force playing at both No. 1 and 2 positions.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
• Columbia is 9-3 and has won its last four matches, including wins at Penn State and Northwestern.
• Ohio State is 14-1, with its lone loss to TCU at the ITA national indoors, a team Michigan defeated last week.
• Baylor is 17-1 with its only loss to Tennessee at the ITA national indoors.
VS. THE OPPONENTS
• Michigan is 4-1 against Columbia all-time, winning the last three meetings including a 4-3 match on the road last year when the Lions were ranked No. 9 and Wolverines were No. 13.
• Michigan holds a 74-42-2 edge over its rival OSU but is just 3-29 since 2000; last year the Wolverines defeated OSU 4-3 at home, capturing its first win the series in 20 years.
• The series with Baylor is split 2-2 all-time with the Bears winning two 4-1 matches in 2019 at the ITA Kick-Off and in the NCAA Regional.
