Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines wrapped their Big Ten dual slate with a 7-1 record to finish second in the conference standings. Michigan's lone defeat came to No. 1 Penn State, which sealed the dual-meet title with a perfect 8-0 Big Ten record, while Iowa sits in third with a 6-1 mark and one dual remaining. Michigan has posted a stellar 25-7 Big Ten dual record under fourth-year head coach Sean Bormet.
• Michigan has scored bonus points in nearly half of its dual-meet wins this season, with 41 bonus wins out of 89 total wins. U-M boasted a season-best seven bonus wins against Maryland (Jan. 30). Among its bonus wins, Michigan owns nine falls, nine technical falls and 20 major decisions in dual action this season.
• Top-ranked graduate student Nick Suriano earned two weekend wins -- a fall and a major decision -- to improve to 8-0 on the season with seven total bonus wins at 125 pounds. He boasts a pair of top-10 wins, defeating Penn State's seventh-ranked Drew Hildebrandt (2-1, Jan. 21) and Minnesota's ninth-ranked Patrick McKee (14-6, Jan. 28). Suriano, who joined the Wolverine program as a grad transfer this semester, was the 2019 NCAA champion at 133 pounds while at Rutgers.
• Graduate student Kanen Storr picked up his 100th career win with a 5-2 decision over Michigan State's Peyton Omania last Sunday (Feb. 13), scoring takedowns in the first and second periods to avenge his dual-meet loss to the Spartan last season. It was Storr's first dual win after missing two months with an injury suffered at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 3-4). He dropped a close 4-1 decision to Indiana's Graham Rooks two days earlier (Feb. 11). He improved to 100-39 over his collegiate career.
• Storr is the second Wolverine wrestler to earn his 100th win this semester. Graduate student Logan Massa is now 107-25 after earning his 100th win with his first-period fall against Pitt's Hunter Kernan (2:18) in his season dual debut (Jan. 9). Two more Wolverines are bearing down on the 100-win milestone. Graduate student Stevan Micic owns a 99-17 record, while graduate student Patrick Brucki, who spent his first three seasons at Princeton, is now 96-21 in his collegiate career. Last season, Myles Amine became the 37th Wolverine wrestler to reach 100 wins and now boasts a 115-22 record.
• Logan Massa earned two technical falls win in U-M's duals against Indiana and Michigan State last weekend, outscoring his opposition 37-6 with 10 total takedowns and 10 near-fall points. Massa is 8-1 on the season with two falls and two technical falls. He also boasts a pair of top-10 wins with decisions over Nebraska's No. 5 Mikey Labriola (4-1, Feb. 4) and Ohio State's No. 7 Ethan Smith (10-5, Jan. 14).
• Myles Amine is 13-1 on the season and owns five ranked wins this season, most recently rallying from an initial deficit to defeat Michigan State's Layne Malczewski 8-4 on a third-period reversal and two-point turn. Amine owns wins over three top-10 opponents -- Nebraska's No. 9 Taylor Venz (8-2), Northern Illinois' No. 7 Brit Wilson (7-0) and Ohio State's No. 7 Kaleb Romero (3-1 SV). His lone loss came 3-1 to No. 1 and defending NCAA champion Aaron Brooks from Penn State.
• Senior/junior Will Lewan also has scored a pair of ranked wins over his last three matches at 157 pounds, including his biggest win of the season with a 3-1 sudden-victory decision over Nebraska's fifth-ranked Peyton Robb. The aggressor for the bulk of the match, Lewan fended off a low single early in the overtime period before countering with a go behind late for the winning takedown. Lewan is 13-3 on the season and a near-perfect 9-1 in dual competition.
