NIAGARA, Ontario -- University of Michigan wrestling alum Lachlan McNeil cruised to the 70kg title at the Canadian Non-Olympic Weight Class Trials on Saturday (June 27) at Canada Games Park. With the win, McNeil qualified for the 2026 UWW Senior World Championships.
McNeil, who now trains with the Wolverines' Cliff Keen Wrestling Club, posted a 3-0 record at 70kg -- after qualifying for the trials by winning the 74kg title at the Canadian National Championships last month and previously competing internationally at 65kg.
He needed just 2:13 of total mat time to earn a quick first-round pin and back-to-back tech falls, including a 10-0 win over Jacob Alexander Torres in the championship final. McNeil finished on a quick low single-leg takedown, locked up a trap-arm gut and turned Torres four times to end the bout in just 38 seconds.
His longest match was a 10-0 tech over Nathan Nash in the semifinals, where he similarly scored an early takedown and added four guts in 1:01. McNeil pinned his first-round opponent, Deion Kahlon, in a gut wrench at the 33-second mark.
The UWW Senior World Championships is scheduled for Oct. 24-Nov. 1 in Astana, Kazakhstan. It will be McNeil's third senior worlds after competing in one junior and three at the cadet level.
