The University of Michigan men's golf team open its spring season with a trip to Laredo, Texas, on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 14-15), for Houston's Border Olympics. The two-day, 54-hole competition will be played at the Laredo Country Club. Scoring will be five players, count the four lowest scores. The course is scheduled to be set up as a par 72 at 7,375 yards.
The Border Olympics Field
There will be 15 teams competing at the Border Olympics, including: Abilene Christian, Baylor, Bowling Green, Houston, Houston Baptist, Illinois State, Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Michigan, New Mexico State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas and UTSA.

The Border Olympics Lineup
Michigan will travel a five-member starting group to the Border Olympics. Traveling to Laredo will include freshman Hunter Thomson, senior Patrick Sullivan, graduate student Brendan O'Reilly, sophomore Will Anderson, and freshman Bavake Sihota. Redshirt-freshman Ben Hoagland will travel and play as an individual.
Last Year at the Border Olympics
After returning from the COVID-19 pause, Michigan finished 12th at the 2021 Border Olympics with a 903 team total. Will Anderson led the Wolverines, posting an even-par 216 (71-72-73), while Patrick Sullivan tied for 49th (78-79-71/228).
Wolverine Bites
• In four fall events, U-M has posted three top-five finishes. U-M opened the year with a third-place showing at the Island Resort Intercollegiate and followed that with a runner-up finish at the Macdonald Cup, as Will Anderson won his first career event. Michigan made it three straight top-fives after tying for fifth at the challenging Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate.
• After leading U-M in three of the four fall events, Will Anderson has now finished as the top Wolverine in five of his 10 career tournaments. He leads the team with a 71.42 scoring average as six of his 12 rounds have been in the red, including a third sub-70 and a career-best 66 (-4) at the Macdonald Cup (first round). He won his first collegiate event at the Macdonald Cup with a career-best 204 (-6) total.
• Hunter Thomson has continued to improve in his first season with the Wolverines. After a 228 (79-69-80) in his collegiate debut, he was the runner-up to teammate Will Anderson with a 207 (-3) tally at the Macdonald Cup, which included a career-low 66 (-4) in the second round. He backed that up with his second sub-par tally at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate, closing with a 214 (73-71-70; -2) and tie for 18th. He closed the fall leading the Wolverines with his 214 (-2) at the White Sands Bahamas Invitation. He is second with a 71.92 average, as six of his 12 rounds have been under par.
• Patrick Sullivan has been a steady force in his final season, posting a career-best 72.67 average, which is more than two-and-a-half strokes better than any other season best. He has three top-25 individual finishes in four starts and posted a career-low 213 (-3) his last time out at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate. For his career, he has started all 21 of his events.
