SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- University of Michigan softball alumna Jenny Allard was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame last Friday night (Dec. 9) in conjunction with annual NFCA Convention at the JW Marriott San Antonio Resort and Spa.
Allard, who is in her 27th season as head coach at Harvard University, is the longest-tenured and winningest softball coach in Ivy League history. She owns a 659-327 conference record and has guided the Crimson to eight Ivy League titles and seven NCAA Tournament berths. Her teams have produced 72 first-team, 69 second-team and 46 honorable mention All-Ivy selections, as well as seven Ivy League Players of the Year, eight Ivy Pitchers of the Year, six Ivy Rookies of the Year and three NFCA All-Americans.
A Michigan Athletics Hall of Honor inductee (2008), Allard was the first major recruiting commitment for Carol Hutchins in 1986 and brought quick results. As a rookie, she was named to the All-Big Ten first team after boasting a .331 batting average and 26 RBI. After hitting .300 as a sophomore and earning All-Big Ten second team honors, she exploded onto the national scene during the 1989 campaign, leading the Wolverines in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.351), hits (65) and RBI (29).
When called upon to fill a vacancy, she also became a force from the pitching circle, tallying a 19-9 record with a 0.75 ERA and 64 strikeouts. She was honored with All-America first team and Big Ten Player of the Year accolades. As a senior, Allard again hit .300 with 11 doubles while going 10-8 from the circle with a 1.55 ERA. She ended her career listed among the top four in 15 of U-M's all-time statistical categories and was awarded Michigan softball's first Big Ten Medal of Honor. In 1992, she was named to the Big Ten's All-Decade team.
