ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team will take on intrastate rival Michigan State on Friday (March 12) at 11 a.m. at the Legacy Center in Brighton, Mich.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan earned four points last weekend at Iowa and Nebraska. Michigan first played to a scoreless double-overtime draw against the Hawkeyes on Thursday (March 4) before going on to Nebraska and earning a 3-2 double-OT win over the Cornhuskers on Sunday (Match 7). Sophomore Danielle Wolfe scored the golden goal for the Wolverines at Nebraska, her first of the season, while junior Sydney Shepherd tied the game in the second half to send the match to overtime.
• The Wolverine freshmen have made an early impact eaarly this season. Sammi Woods has three points on the season, scoring the lone goal at Ohio State and assisting on Wolfe's game-winner against Nebraska, while Kacey Lawrence scored Michigan's first goal against Nebraska and Sarah Bridenstine had an assist on U-M's second goal against Minnesota.
• Michigan is starting to see its hard work on offense pay off after scoring a season-best three goals at Nebraska. This Wolverines are outshooting opponents, 73-54, through their first five games and have put 30 of those shots on net. In its last two games, U-M outshot its opponents, 43-17, testing the keepers 15 times.
• Senior Hillary Beall ranks second in the Big Ten with 27 saves on the season. Beall has a .871 save percentage and has made three saves or more in four games, including a career-best 15 in the season opener at Ohio State.

Michigan leads, 14-7-7, in the all-time series with Michigan State
Head coach Jen Klein is 2-0 all-time against Michigan State. The Wolverines defeated the Spartans, 2-0, at U-M Soccer Stadium to earn the final spot in the 2018 Big Ten Tournament and notched a 3-2 win at MSU in 2019 with a goal in the 86th minute by then-senior Sura Yekka.
The Spartans are 1-3-1 overall on the season after falling at Rutgers and Penn State this past weekend. Michigan State is being outscored, 8-5, by its opponents with Gia Wahlberg scoring twice and Danielle Stephan adding three assists. MSU is averaging just 5.6 shots per game, while opponents are averaging 13.4, and starting keeper Lauren Kozal holding a .750 save percentage with 24 saves through the first five matches.
