COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team posted a program-record score of 198.025 in its victory at the Ohio State Quad on Sunday afternoon (March 7) at Covelli Center. The Wolverines earned the first score of 198.00 or better in program history and topped the previous best of 197.950 set at the Elevate the Stage event in 2020.
Michigan scored season bests on the vault (49.550), uneven bars (49.600) and balance beam (49.500) to lead to its program-best performance. The Wolverines' 49.500 on the beam ties for third all-time in program history and is the highest score since they scored a 49.500 at Oklahoma in 2019, while U-M's 49.600 on the bars ranks fourth all-time in program history.
The Wolverines won by more than two points with Ohio State coming in second (196.000), Penn State placing third (195.250) and Rutgers in fourth (194.800).
Sophomores Sierra Brooks and Gabby Wilson took home two individual titles each. Brooks tied with Wilson and freshman Naomi Morrison for first on vault with matching 9.925s. Brooks also earned her second straight all-around victory, tying a career-best 39.650, while Wilson won the floor title with a 9.925. Natalie Wojcik captured the uneven bars title with a 9.975.
Michigan started off strong on the beam as freshman Carly Bauman and Abby Heiskell scored matching 9.925s on the beam. The score tied a career best for Heiskell and was a career high for Bauman as the duo tied for second in the event, while Brooks finished fourth with a 9.900.
Moving to the floor, the Wolverines recorded back-to-back 9.900s from Wojcik and Brooks to finish second overall before Wilson capped off the event with a 9.925 and the event victory. After two complete rotations, U-M led the field with a running score of 98.875.
Michigan put together another outstanding rotation as Nicoletta Koulos scored a 9.900 in the second spot on the vault. Wilson was the first 9.925 of the day on the event for the Wolverines, and Morrison and Brooks closed it out with 9.925s of their own with the trio taking home the shared victory and Koulos placing fourth overall.
With one rotation left, Michigan held a lead of more than a point over the rest of the field and strung together its best uneven bars performance of the season with a 49.600. Wojcik led the field with a 9.975 in the final routine of the day for the U-M, while Brooks and Heiskell tied for second with 9.925s.
Michigan will conclude the regular season Friday (March 12) when it takes on Maryland for a 5 p.m. meet against the Terrapins in College Park.
