ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will travel to the Maryland to cap off its 2021 regular season Friday (March 12) at 5 p.m. with a meet against the Terrapins at the Xfinity Center.
The Wolverines and Terrapins were originally scheduled for a home-and-home meet, but the matchup in Ann Arbor on Feb. 19 was canceled due to a Michigan athletics two-week pause in athletics.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan set a program-record with a 198.025 at the Ohio State Quad last Sunday (March 7). It was the first time a U-M team eclipsed the 198.000 mark and topped the Wolverines' 197.950 at the Elevate the Stage event in 2020.
• The Wolverines' 49.500 on the beam tied for third all-time in program history and is the highest score since they scored a 49.500 at Oklahoma in 2019, while U-M's 49.600 on the bars ranks fourth all-time in program history. Michigan scored season bests on the vault (49.550), uneven bars (49.600) and balance beam (49.500) to lead to its program-best performance.
• Sophomore Sierra Brooks took home the all-around title for the second straight week, tying a career-best 39.650. She also earned a share of the vault title along with Gabby Wilson and Naomi Morrison. The vault title was the first of Morrison's career, while Wilson also earned her fourth floor title of the season. Junior Natalie Wojcik earned her third uneven bars title of the season with a career-best 9.975 to push the Wolverines over the 198.000 mark in the final rotation.
• After competing in its second away meet of the 2021 season, the Wolverines rank in the top 10 on all four events and are sitting in fourth in the Road To Nationals rankings. Michigan is third on the uneven bars, fourth on the vault, sixth on the beam and eighth on floor exercise heading into the final week of the season.
• Individually, Wojcik ranks fourth on the beam with an average score of 9.950, sixth in the all-around with an average score of 39.625 and seventh on the uneven bars with an average score of 9.925. She scored a career-best 9.975 on the uneven bars at the Ohio State Quad, earning a perfect 10 from one judge. Wilson and Brooks also rank in the top 15 nationally as Wilson ranks 13th on the floor and Brooks ranks 14th on vault.
