PONTIAC, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to the University of Wisconsin Monday (March 1) at UWM Soccer Complex. The Wolverines (1-1-1, 1-1-1 B1G) had an 11-5 advantage in shots against the Badgers (2-1-0, 2-1-0 B1G) and put five shots on frame, but they could not get any past the keeper.
Michigan's best chance came in the second half off a Sammi Woods shot that almost sneaked into the bottom-left corner, but a diving Jordyn Bloomer scooped it up before it could cross the line.
The Wolverines saw a chance early from Danielle Wolfe, but the shot sailed wide and kept the game scoreless. Wisconsin capitalized on its second shot of the match, using a pass and a slow roll tip-in into the bottom-left corner of the net in the 20th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Sydney Shepherd fired two shots that missed just wide in attempts to tie the game, but Michigan headed into the halftime break trailing, 1-0.
U-M continued to look for chances in the second half with Nicki Hernandez getting in for two that sailed wide and Lily Farkas testing Bloomer twice.
With time winding down, Woods got her foot on a ball that was saved by Bloomer, representing the last big chance for the Maize and Blue.
Michigan will be back in action Thursday (March 4) when it travels to Iowa for noon CST contest in Iowa City, Iowa.
