Michigan to Host Arizona State, Honor Senior Class

The University of Michigan ice hockey team hosts Arizona State this weekend at Yost Arena, in the final scheduled home games of the season with the teams facing off Friday and Saturday (Feb. 26-27). Both contests are slated for 7 p.m., and each will be streamed live on Big Ten Network Plus. Following Saturday night's game, Michigan will honor its four seniors. Big Ten Tournament Now March 14-16
The Big Ten Conference announced Thursday (Feb. 25) that the dates for the Big Ten Tournament have been changed to March 14-16 from March 18-20. The tournament will take place as previously planned at Compton Family Ice Arena on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The decision to change the dates of the tournament was made in order to ease compression between the regular season and postseason tournaments in the interest of the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and officials. » Big Ten Release

The Series
• Michigan is 5-0 all-time against the Sun Devils since first meeting in 2018. The Wolverines opened the season with an 8-1 and 3-0 wins over Arizona State.
• The Wolverines have outscored the Sun Devils, 25-8, in the all-time series.
• Freshman Kent Johnson leads all Wolverines in the series with five points, while senior Dakota Raabe has four.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan split their two games last weekend at Ohio State and moved to 12-8-0 overall and 10-8-0-1 in the Big Ten.
• The Wolverines are ranked No. 7 in the latest edition of the USCHO poll (Feb. 22) with a 7-3 record since Jan. 1. Over that span, Michigan has a +29 scoring margin.
• Freshman Thomas Bordeleau leads the team in scoring with 25 points on seven goals and a team-high 18 assists. He had a 10-game point streak snapped on Friday (Feb. 19) but recovered with a four-point game the next night. Kent Johnson adds 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists), while Brendan Brisson has 18 points (team-high eight goals, 10 assists. Matty Beniers rounds out of the top-four scoring, all freshmen, with 16 points (6G, 10A).
• Following the four rookies in scoring are three defensemen, led by sophomore Cam York. York has 15 points, while fellow blueliner Owen Power has 14 points. Junior Nick Blankenburg follows with 11 points.
• Michigan has split goaltending duties the last four weekends, between Strauss Mann and Erik Portillo. Mann is 9-7 with a .929 save percentage and a 1.94 goals-against average, while Portillo is 3-1 with a .933 save percentage and a 1.80 GAA.
• Michigan's high-flying offense averages 3.65 goals per game, eighth nationally, while the defense has limited opponents to just 2.00 gpg, sixth nationally.
• On special teams, the Wolverine power play ranks sixth nationally converting 15 of 60 (25 percent).
Scouting the Sun Devils
• ASU returns to Yost with a 6-14-2 record. The Sun Devils recently returned north last weekend, where it split at Michigan State. They will close their regular season at Ohio State next weekend.
• Freshman Matthew Kopperud leads the team with 12 goals and six assists for 18 points. Senior James Sanchez -- a Michigan transfer -- has 13 points (four goals, nine assists). Freshman Ryan O'Reilly adds 12 points, while senior Johnny Walker has 11.
• ASU has used four different netminders this season with junior Evan Debrouwer appearing in net for the majority of minutes. He has a 3-9-1 record in his 11 starts, an .891 save percentage and a 3.08 goals-against average. Freshman Cole Brady started both games at MSU last weekend. He is 2-3-1 in his eight starts with a .902 save percentage and a 3.54 GAA -- the best numbers of the four.
