ANN ARBOR -- Director of track and field/cross country Kevin Sullivan announced Tuesday (Dec. 7) the full 2022 schedule for the University of Michigan men's and women's track and field teams, including five regular-season home meets at the program's state-of-the-art facilities.
The Wolverines will host three consecutive Saturday home meets at the world-class U-M Indoor Track Building on Jan. 8, 15 and 22 to begin the indoor campaign, with additional Friday home competitions to wrap up both the indoor regular season on Feb. 18 and the outdoor regular season on May 6.
Michigan's opponents for the home meets will be announced at a later date.
The Wolverines will build up for seven weekends to indoor postseason competitions at the Big Ten Indoor Championships (Feb. 25-26) in Geneva, Ohio, and the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 11-12) in Birmingham, Ala.
Outdoors, the eight-week regular season will give way to the Big Ten Outdoor Championships (May 13-15) at Minnesota, the NCAA East Preliminaries (May 25-28) at Indiana, and the NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 8-11) at Oregon.
Michigan once again will welcome spectators into the U-M Indoor Track Building for the first time since the early winter of 2020, following health and safety policies established by the University of Michigan. Fans will be able to take in the competition on the Wolverines' 200-meter hydraulically banked 200-meter track and the surrounding field-event venues from bleachers with a permanent seating capacity of 2,000 spectators.
The winter season will begin with the Wolverine Invitational on Jan. 8, followed a week later on Jan. 15 by a scored quad meet in the Simmons-Harvey Invitational. The Michigan Invitational on Jan. 22 will mark the third of three home meets to kick off the season.
The Wolverines will travel to top competitions throughout the region over the rest of the regular season, including stops at Indiana, Kentucky, Notre Dame and Chicago.
Outdoor track and field begins just one week after the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 19-20 at Central Florida, with additional early spring warmer-weather trips to NC State, Miami (Fla.), Stanford, Duke and Indiana.
Michigan also is scheduled to compete at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, the Drake Relays and the Penn Relays before returning home for the Len Paddock Open on May 6 in the lone outdoor home meet of the year.
