
Wolverine Women Cruise to Victory Over Grand Valley State

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team continued its strong start to the season Saturday morning (Nov. 6), taking down Grand Valley State 162-76 in the Ian Miskelley Memorial Meet at Canham Natatorium.
The Wolverines started the morning by taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Natalie Kan, Letitia Sim,Sophia Kudryashova and Lindsay Flynn touched the wall first in 1:42.47, while the quartet of Casey Chung, Kaitlynn Sims, Maggie MacNeil and Madeleine Bauer finished in 1:44.35.
Senior Olivia Carter earned the first Michigan (4-0) individual win of the meet in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:20.82, while sophomore Claire Donan finished second with a time of 10:31.27. The Wolverines continued to dominate and took the top four spots in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Kathryn Ackerman finished first with a time of 1:50.29 followed by junior Octavia Lau (1:52.88), freshman Kathryn Shanley (1:53.05) and sophomore Claire Newman (1:54.33).
Michigan continued the hot start and took the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Letitia Sim touched first in 23.34, followed closely by junior Sophia Kudryashova (24.00) and freshman Greta Gidley (24.13).Â
The Wolverines followed up with the top four spots in the 200-yard IM as senior MacNeil led the way with a 2:01.28, while sophomore Noelle Kaufmann finished second (2:06.27). Junior Megan Glass touched the wall third in 2:07.23 and junior Kaitlynn Sims finished fourth (2:10.02).
Meanwhile in the diving well, Michigan dominated the 1-meter dive with each of the top five scores. Senior Allie Klein took first place with a 295.20 score, while freshman Chrismon Clark and junior Lauren Cheetham followed at second (289.05) and third (267.00), respectively. Freshmen Evie Johnson (265.28) and Annie Costello (261.53) rounded out the top five. Klein also took the crown in the 3-meter dive, finishing with a final score of 309.08. Costello placed third (285.75), Clark fourth (274.58) and Cheetham fifth (268.58) in the event.
The Wolverines placed first in each of the next three events, the 100-yard butterfly (Sim, 53.82), 100-yard freestyle (Ackerman, 51.57), and the 100-yard backstroke (Chung, 54.83). In the next event, the 500-yard freestyle, the Wolverines swept the podium with Kudryashova (4:57.29), Glass (4:57.75) and Katii Tang (5:05.84).
The final two events of the day also were won by Michigan, with MacNeil winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:05.65 and the relay team of Chung, Gidley, Kalli Fama, and Lindsay Flynn winning the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:35.70.
The Wolverines will have nearly a one-month break before returning to action as Michigan heads to Minneapolis to take part in the Minnesota Invitational, Dec. 1-4.
