• After winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular-season title with a perfect 13-0 record last season, Prairie View A&M returns eight players from last year.
• Prairie View A&M was selected to finish second in the preseason SWAC poll with nine of 12 first place votes. The Panthers were picked behind Texas Southern, who U-M played in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
• The Panthers have had 11 steals in each of their first two games, but they are averaging just 23.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 13.5 turnovers.
• Senior guard Jawaun Daniels -- 2021 All-SWAC second team -- was voted SWAC Preseason Player of the Year after leading the Panthers in scoring (15.4 ppg) rebounds (6.1 rpg) and field goal percentage (.541). In two games this season, Daniels is averaging 20.0 points, with 3.0 rebounds and five of the team's 11 three-pointers.
• Behind Daniels is senior guard D'Rell Roberts who is averaging 12.5 points per game. He made all three of his three-pointers in the opener at Saint Mary's. He is a team-best 10-for-15 from the free-throw line. In fact, the duo of Daniels and Roberts have 24 of the team's 37 trips to the foul line (65 percent).
• 2021 SWAC Coach of the Year Byron Smith begins his eighth year at the helm of the Panthers. Last season, Smith's squad closed with a COVID-19 shortened 16-5 record, and that a 13-0 conference mark as well as a trip to the SWAC Tournament title game. Smith earned his third consecutive SWAC Coach of the Year honor.

Returning Home to the DMV
• Michigan's "DMV Boys" -- Hunter Dickinson (Alexandra, Va.) and Terrance Williams II (Clinton, Md.) -- return to their respective hometowns for their first collegiate game. U-M head coach Juwan Howard refers to the duo as the "DMV Boys" for being from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia area. It has stuck.
• It is a friendship that started in an 8-and-under AAU league with the DC Assault team, which was extended in sixth grade with the ETU Select, before the team transferred over to Team Takeover.
• As they each headed to rival high schools, with Dickinson at DeMatha Catholic and Williams at Gonzaga College, they faced one another in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC).
• During their prep careers, they battled for the league title for four times -- each winning two titles. Dickinson claimed the 2018 and 2020, while Williams got the 2017 and 2019.
• After Dickinson committed to the Maize and Blue on Dec. 19, 2019, Williams ended up joining him on Jan. 1, 2020. Williams had originally committed to Georgetown, but reopened his recruitment (Dec. 5, 2019).
