Andrew Liskowitz (Jan. 22)
Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week -- Graduate student Andrew Liskowitz opened his 2020 campaign with the finest shot put performance in U-M indoor track and field history, earning him his third career Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor. The Olympic hopeful Liskowitz, ranked No. 3 in the nation, shattered his own school record with a mark of 20.29m (66 feet, 7 inches), headlining a series of throws that included three marks farther than 20 meters and the five farthest throws in school history indoors. Roland Amarteifio (Jan. 14)
Wooden Citizenship Cup Award -- Senior Roland Amarteifio has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious Wooden Citizenship Cup Award. Amarteifio was among 27 semifinalist student-athletes from across college athletics who were recognized by Athletes for a Better World for their status as "outstanding role models among athletes." An additional four individuals were named finalists. The award, named after legendary men's basketball coach John Wooden -- is in its 16th year of honoring student-athletes who demonstrate character and leadership in and out of competition. Amarteifio, a track and field captain who is pursuing a degree in environmental studies, served as a co-founder of a non-profit organization that delivered and installed more than 500 computers at 25 different schools -- many of which had not previously had any computers -- in rural Ghana in the summer of 2019. Though he was born and has spent much of his life in the United States, Amarteifio lived with his grandparents in Ghana throughout his early childhood, making the venture even more meaningful. He hopes to represent Ghana at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, in his signature 400-meter hurdles event. » ABW Release
