Team Notes
• The Wolverines are in a stretch of three meets in four weeks as they begin preparations for the Big Ten Championships. After last Saturday's victory over Indiana, this weekend's meet against Ohio State is another opportunity for Michigan to see where it stands against another contender for the conference championship. Michigan and Indiana have swapped first- and second-place finishes at the Big Ten Championships each of the last two years -- Michigan won in 2018, Indiana won in 2019 -- while Ohio State was third both times. This year, Michigan (No. 5), Indiana (No. 15) and Ohio State (No. 18) are the top three Big Ten teams in the CSCAA/TYR Top 25 rankings.
• Michigan heads into the weekend on the heels of a 186-114 win over No. 15 Indiana at Canham Natatorium last Saturday (Jan. 11). [ Recap ]
• Michigan came in at No. 5 in the latest CSCAA/TYR Top 25 rankings, released on Dec. 11. [ Rankings ]
• Sophomore Olivia Carter had a memorable first meet at Canham Natatorium, winning the 100-yard butterfly (54.20), 200-yard butterfly (1:58.80) and 200-yard IM (2:01.48) against the Hoosiers. A mid-year transfer from the University of Georgia, Carter was 2019 SEC Freshman Swimmer of the Year and was a 2019 All-American in the 200-yard butterfly.
• Three swimmers have Big Ten-best times at this point in the season: sophomore Maggie MacNeil (50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly), junior Sierra Schmidt (1,000-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle) and senior Miranda Tucker (100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke). The Wolverines also have conference-leading times in all five relays.
• The Wolverines have a deep diving group heading into the postseason, as seven of the team's eight divers have accumulated at least one NCAA Zone Diving qualifying score. Junior Christy Cutshaw and freshman Lucy Hogan have received scores on all three events. [ Diving Bests ]
