NAPA, Calif. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team kicked off the 2019 fall tournament season competing in the Napa Valley Tennis Classic, hosted at the Meadowood Napa Valley Resort.
Senior Nick Beaty led the Wolverines with a pair of victories in singles play. On Friday he defeated Hugo Hashimoto in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, before he earned a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win on Saturday over Mert Zincirli of Cal. Beaty also picked up a doubles win on Friday alongside classmate Connor Johnston against Stefan Leustian and Aryan Chaudhury.
U-M also picked up singles triumphs from Johnston and the remaining participants of junior Mattias Siimar and reigning ITA Freshman of the Year Andrew Fenty.
Fenty and Siimar also teamed up in doubles to defeat Con Frantzen and Sven Lah of Baylor, 6-2.
Next weekend (Sept. 20-22) Michigan will send members of the team to both coasts, as the Wolverines will participate in the Battle of the Bay Invite in San Francisco, California, and the Ivy Plus in Princeton, New Jersey.
