ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-seeded University of Michigan men's tennis team earned the doubles point and three singles victories en route to a 4-1 win over No. 5-seeded Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament on Friday afternoon (April 26).
Michigan's duo of Connor Johnston and Mattias Siimar took a 6-3 win at No. 1, before Harrison Brown and Gabe Tishman clinched the doubles point (6-3) with their fourth win in a row as a pairing.
In singles play, U-M took a commanding lead with three first set wins. Andrew Fenty opened his match at No. 1 with a double-break off deuce points to take the first set, 6-2. Siimar cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 for the Maize and Blue's second point of the match, converting on three deuce points in the first set.
Indiana's lone point came from a win at No. 4, despite Johnston's comeback efforts in the second set where he battled to tie it at five-all before ultimately losing, 7-5.
Fenty was trailing 2-3 in his second set before winning four consecutive games, ultimately claiming Michigan's third point with a 6-2, 6-3 win. Seconds later Myles Schalet was able to clinch the match at No. 2 with a 7-5, 6-4 win. Schalet had match point at 5-2 before dropping two games.
Michigan will take on top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Ohio State on Saturday (April 27) at 10 a.m. in the semifinals.
