Wolverines Drop Regular-Season Finale at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team was unable to battle back from losing the doubles point and early setbacks in singles, and fell, 4-1, to Iowa, 4-1, Sunday afternoon (April 21) at Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex.
The Hawkeyes claimed the doubles point, as the Wolverines dropped matches at No. 1 and No. 3. The No. 2 duo of sophomores Harrison Brown and Mattias Siimar battled back from a 1-4 deficit to even the match at 4 before the doubles point was clinched.
Michigan won two first sets in singles, with freshman Patrick Maloney at No. 4 and senior Myles Schalet earning the tiebreak first-set win at No. 3.
Gabe Tishman battled back at No. 5 in the second set, forcing a tiebreak while holding off a match point serve before dropping the tiebreaker, 7-3.
The Maize and Blue earned its lone point of the afternoon when freshman Andrew Fenty battled back from a first-set loss to take No. 1, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. Fenty improved to a team-best 25-5 record and moved to a tie with teammate Siimar for sixth all-time in wins by a freshman in program history.
The Hawkeyes clinched the match with a win at No. 4 to seal the match.
Michigan will host the 2019 Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament next week, Thursday through Sunday, April 25-28 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
