The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team hits the road for a mid-week matchup at Michigan State to kick off Big Ten play. Â
• Wednesday's match will be the 121st meeting between U-M and MSU, with the Maize and Blue holding a 101-19 advantage in the all-time series against the Spartans. Michigan was 1-0 against the Michigan State last season with a 7-0 decision in Ann Arbor.
• Michigan State comes into the in-state matchup with a 5-7 record, having lost to Western Michigan, 7-0, last Friday (Feb. 22) in Kalamazoo. After earning their fifth win of the season Feb. 2 against Eastern Illinois, the Spartans have dropped their last three matchups.
• The Spartans are led by Anthony Pero, who has a 7-4 mark in singles play; all seven of his wins have come at the No. 6 spot. MSU's No. 1 player, Jack Winkler, has a 6-4 mark.
• Ranked No. 56 by the ITA, sophomore Mattias Siimar sports an 11-7 record and is 5-2 in dual matches from the No. 1 spot in the lineup. The Estonia native is coming off an upset win over No. 15-ranked Alex Lebedev of Notre Dame, and heads into the week on a five-match win streak.
• Freshman Andrew Fenty has a team-leading 13-4 mark in singles play, with a 6-1 record in dual match play, playing at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots in the lineup. Fenty is tied with Siimar with a team--leading five-match win streak.
• Siimar and Fenty have teamed up in doubles for a team-high 11-3 mark, while going 6-1 in dual matches.
• After its match against Michigan State, the Maize and Blue will return to action Friday through Sunday, March 15-17, when the Wolverines travel to Indian Wells, California, for the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge. Match times and opponents are yet to be determined.
