SARASOTA, Fla. -- Junior Harrison Brown of the University of Michigan men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Lakewood Ranch Invite, but fell to Duke's Samuel Rubell on Saturday (Nov. 2) to pace a group of four Wolverines in the event at Lakewood Ranch Country Club.
Brown marched to Saturday's quarterfinals with a pair of straight-sets wins on Friday (Nov. 1) over Florida's Greysen Cacciatore, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 32, and South Florida's Ivan Yatsuk 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16.
The Australian partnered with senior Nick Beaty in doubles action, with the pair knocking off USF's Yatsuk and Rithvik Bollipalli, 8-6. The Michigan duo fell, 8-7(4), in the second round against Notre Dame's William Howells and Axel Nefve.
Beaty won his first-round singles matchup with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Duke's Michael Heller, before dropping a marathon match against Louisville's Sergio Hernandez Ramirez, 7-5, 4-6, 0-1 (4). He finished off his tournament in the consolation round, besting Rana-Roop Singh Bhular of Florida State 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (12).
Junior Teddy Oosterbaan dropped his first two singles matches before closing with a win over Notre Dame's Conor Somers. He and junior Ryan Fu paired up as a doubles team, but came up short in their opening-round match, 8-1, against Florida State's duo of Richard Thongoana and Bryn Nahrung.
