Fenty, Siimar Take Doubles Consolation Championship at ITA Fall Nationals

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- The duo of junior Mattias Siimar and sophomore Andrew Fenty of the University of Michigan men's tennis team captured the doubles consolation bracket final at the ITA National Fall Championships (Nov. 6-9) at The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club.
In the consolation final, the Michigan duo bested Iowa's Oliver Okonkwo and Will Davies by a 6-1, 6-1 score. The U-M pair won 51 of 83 points in the matchup.
Following a round of 32 main-draw defeat against Dominik Kellovsky and Matej Vocel of Oklahoma State (6-4, 4-6, 10-5), Siimar and Fenty rattled off a 6-3, 6-3 win over Dartmouth's Charlie Broom and David Horneffer. Consecutive victories then came over Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn of Texas Tech and Matt Summers and James Davis of Denver by matching 6-2, 6-0 scorelines.
The pair wrapped up the fall season with a 12-2 overall doubles record.
The Fall Nationals conclude U-M's fall season. The spring season will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, when U-M hosts North Carolina State at the Varsity Tennis Center.
