
Wolverines Sweep Buckeyes for Fourth Straight Big Ten Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Sophomore Paige Jones notched 19 kills to help power the University of Michigan volleyball team to its second sweep (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) over Ohio State in a week's time Sunday (Oct. 6) at Covelli Center.
The win boosted the Wolverines' record to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in Big Ten play. The 4-0 conference start is U-M's best under head coach Mark Rosen and its best start in league play since 1997.
In addition to Jones' attacking effort, the Wolverine offense was paced by freshman May Pertofsky, who finished with 10 kills on the day and a hitting percentage of .375. Defensively, U-M had two players reach double figures in digs as senior Sydney Wetterstrom had 17 and junior Natalie Smith had 14. Senior MacKenzi Welsh had 35 assists, nine digs, four total blocks and three kills.
The Wolverines took the first set, 25-20, helped by a solid performance on the attacking end. Michigan registered a .324 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set victory.
Michigan continued to roll and earned a 25-21 victory in the second set. The Wolverines came back after an early deficit and grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that showcased four lead changes.
U-M took set three to sweep the Buckeyes for the second time in the last week. The Wolverines scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-19 victory. Michigan has now won seven of its last eight contests.
Michigan will be back in action Friday (Oct. 11), when it will take on Iowa in Iowa City at 7 p.m. CDT. The match at Carver-Hawkeye Arena will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
