The University of Michigan women's soccer team takes to the road one final time in the regular season when it heads west to play Nebraska at 7 p.m. CDT on Friday (Oct. 12) and Iowa at 1 p.m. CDT on Sunday (Oct. 14). Both matches will be streamed live on BTN Plus (paid subscription required).
Series History With Nebraska
Michigan holds a 7-1-2 lead in the all-time series against the Cornhuskers. Most recently, the teams met in Ann Arbor and played to a 1-1, double-overtime draw. Taylor Timko scored the lone goal in the 49th minute. Nebraska's  only win in the all-time series came on Nov. 16, 1997, in Lincoln. The last time the Cornhuskers hosted Michigan was Sept. 18, 2016, when the Wolverines prevailed, 2-1.
Scouting the Cornhuskers
Nebraska ranks fourth in the Big Ten with an 8-4-3 overall record (4-1-2 B1G). The Cornhuskers have played four top-25 opponents, defeating then-No. 24 Penn State and then-No. 13 NC State, while falling to then-No. 18 Washington State and then-No. 14 Duke. Savanah Uveges leads Nebraska with 18 points (seven goals, four assists) and Faith Carter has 17 points (eight goals, one assist). As a team, the Cornhuskers have scored 24 goals on the season and are averaging 11 shots per match. In goal, Aubrei Corder has made 15 appearances, allowing 22 goals and making 39 saves for a 1.42 goals-against average and a .639 save percentage.
Series History with Iowa
Michigan holds a 17-3-3 lead in the all-time series against the Hawkeyes. This meeting will mark the first road matchup since Sept. 16, 2016, when the Wolverines earned a 1-0 win. In the most recent meeting the teams played to a 2-2, double-overtime draw, with both goals scored by Reilly Martin. Overall, Michigan holds a 9-2 record on the road against Iowa, outscoring the Hawkeyes, 25-9, in that span.
Glancing at Iowa
Iowa comes into Sunday's match with a 6-6-2 overall record (2-4-1 Big Ten), averaging 1.14 goals per game on 11 shots per match. The Hawkeyes have scored 16 goals on the season, but have kept opponents to 17 goals on 161 shot attempts. Natalie Winters leads the Iowa offensive attack with 11 points on the season (five goals, one assist) and Kaleigh Haus has seven points on three goals and one assist. The Hawkeyes have been splitting time between two keepers with Claire Graves making eight starts and Cora Meyers, six. Graves has given up seven goals and made 36 saves this year and has a .837 save percentage, while Meyers has allowed 10 goals, made 18 saves and has a .643 save percentage.
A Look at the Big Ten Standings
With the end of the regular season only two weeks away, it is time to look at where the Wolverines stand in the conference. Michigan sits in a three-way tie for seventh overall with a 3-4-1 Big Ten record, there is still plenty of time for moving up with four matches remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams in the standings make it to the Big Ten Conference Tournament. Rutgers is first overall with a 5-0-2 conference record while Penn State is in second with a 5-2-0 record. The Wolverines will take on Nebraska (4th), Iowa (T10th), Maryland (T10th) and Michigan State (14th) to close out the 2018 season.
Michigan's Offensive Production
Michigan is tied for fourth in the Big Ten with 24 goals on the season, behind only Indiana (30), Penn State (28) and Illinois (25). Michigan averages 1.79 goals per match on 11.9 shots per match. The Wolverines have taken 167 shots on the season, putting 80 on goal for a .493 shots-on-goal percentage. U-M has played seven matches during which they have scored two goals or more, winning five of those matches. Sophomore Nicki Hernandez leads the Michigan offense with 19 points (seven goals, five assists), while Reilly Martin ranks second with 14 points (five goals, four assists) and sophomore Sarah Stratigakis has 13 points (six goals, one assist).
Wolverines Take One in Week 8
Michigan opened up Week 8 of the with a shutout win over Ohio State. Sophomore Hillary Beal made five saves on the night in the 1-0 victory and sophomore Nicki Hernandez scored the game-winning goal for the Maize and Blue. Despite tough play from the Wolverines, they would close out the weekend with a 2-1 loss to Penn State. Michigan's lone goal of the match came from Sarah Stratigakis, who gave the Wolverines the early lead.
